Health visitors provide support to families during pregnancy and after a baby is born

The health visiting team at Tower Hamlets is part of the community nursing service. We provide health services to children and families.

 

Families can have contact with a health visitor during:

 

  • pregnancy,

  • 10-14 days after the baby is born,

  • when the baby/child is 6 weeks, 8-12 months, 2 and 3 years old, and at

  • weekly child health clinics.

 

Health visitors provide child health growth surveillance, health promotion advice, and support with sensitive issues, including safeguarding such as child protection, domestic abuse and other family health concerns.

 

How to get an appointment

 

Referrals are made via a variety of routes, including:

 

  • self referral,

  • maternity services,

  • GP surgeries,

  • speech and language team, 

  • audiology team, 

  • child development team,

  • social services,

  • clinical nurse specialist, eg accident and emergency liaison nurse, teenage pregnancy team, etc, and

  • children centres.

 

Where to find us

 

Health visiting services are offered at:

 

  • clients own homes,

  • schools,

  • health centres,

  • GP surgeries, and

  • community events.

 

Health visiting teams are based at health centres, GP surgeries and at Mile End Hospital.
