We provide services to improve the foot health of the community. We do this by maintaining and/or improving an individual’s mobility and therefore his or her independence.
What services are provided?
We provide a wide range of services, including
- routine chiropody care,
- rheumatoid clinics,
- high risk diabetic clinics,
- biomechanics and gait analysis,
- nail surgery and minor operative procedures,
- sports injury clinics,
- podopaediatric clinics for developmental and congenital deformities,
- verrucae clinics,
- orthotic and appliance prescription and manufacture,
- heel pain clinic,
- services for people with HIV/AIDS,
- drop-in clinics for homeless people. Daily emergency clinics,
- nail cutting service,
- foot health education,
- footwear services,
- home visits,
- health promotion through talks on foot care and foot health.
Services provided by the footwear department include:
- measuring for and fitting of prescribed footwear,
- planning necessary footwear alterations, raises etc,
- repair service for prescribed footwear,
- provision of temporary footwear for 'high risk' feet,
- problem solving clinic for those whose NHS footwear becomes uncomfortable.
Where is the service provided?
The service is provided in residential homes for elderly people, one GP surgery and two mobile units which visit more than 40 locations in Tower Hamlets, at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, Mile End Hospital and the following health centres:

The footwear service is provided at Mile End Hospital, Bancroft Road, London E1 4DG.
How to get an appointment
Referrals may be made by GPs and other health professionals. Patients may also refer themselves. Application forms are available at all GP surgeries, or from the department.
