Healthy start scheme

Healthy start is a government scheme which provides vouchers that can be used to purchase  plain fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, milk and infant formula as well as free vitamins.  The scheme is available to pregnant women and children under four years old on low income and all pregnant women under 18. 


Healthy start food vouchers


The healthy start vouchers are worth:


  • £3.10 a week if you are pregnant
  • £6.20 a week for each baby aged under one

£3.10 a week for each child aged over one and under four The food vouchers can be used in any shop that's taking part in the healthy start scheme. Healthy start shops include greengrocers, milkmen, market stalls, chemists, corner shops and food co-ops as well as supermarkets.


Healthy start vitamins


Healthy start vitamins contain the recommended daily allowance of vitamins for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children from six months old.

 

  • Women's tablets: vitamins C, D and folic acid
  • Children's drops: vitamins A, C and D


For those people who are entitled to free vitamins, coupons for the vitamins can be exchanged at the following centres in Tower Hamlets: Please ring the centre to check when the vitamins are available
