Accessibility

NHS Tower Hamlets believes that the information on our website should be easy to access by everyone.

Meeting standards

We are committed to complying with the Disability Discrimination Act and have made significant improvements to our site in order to reduce the barriers experienced by people with disabilities.

Our website has been designed and built to meet the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) web content accessibility 'AA' guidelines.

We are aware, however, that occasionally we do make mistakes. If you find any of our pages inaccessible please use the feedback form to let us know.

Alternative text

We use alternative (alt) text labels on all the graphics on the website. These appear as you hover over the graphic with a mouse and provide a description of the graphic which can be read in screen readers.

Links

All text links within our site have been written so that they make sense when read out of context (eg by screen readers) and have 'alt' text labels.

Change the text size

Increasing the size of text on the website can be done by clicking on the ‘Increase text size’ link at the top of any page (AAA).

You can also change the size of the text on screen by using the settings in your browser as follows:
• using Internet Explorer, select View > Text Size and select the preferred size
• using Netscape, select View > Text Zoom and select the preferred percentage size
• using Mozilla Firefox, select View > Text size and select increase or decrease.

Text only version

A text only version of our website is available by clicking on the 'Text only' link at the top of any page. Clicking on 'Text only' removes all the graphics from the site. This facility is of particular value for users who want to magnify the text up to a very large size (there are no overlapping elements), or who want to apply their own stylesheet.

Colours and contrast

The colours used on the site are based on the national Change4Life guidelines.

Simplicity is a distinguishing characteristic of the Change4Life campaign. This is achieved by the use of a consistent and simple colour palette.

The primary colours are Change4Life Yellow and Change4Life Red. Yellow is the main colour of the campaign and should be used for all backgrounds. Red is used for body copy, red and black are used for headlines.

Where illustrations and names of people appear on this site, those people have given their consent for the use on this site. The use of those images or names for any other purpose would constitute a breach of confidentiality on the part of the person using them for that other purpose.
