Creating a healthier future
NHS East London and the City Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 21 September 2011
Hear about the future of health services across east London and the City and ask questions of your local NHS.
NHS East London and the City’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in the Main Hall, Stratford Old Town Hall, 29 The Broadway, E15 4BQ, on Wednesday 21 September 2011 from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
The AGM is the combined annual meeting for City and Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trusts that are working together as a cluster organisation called NHS East London and the City and hold the health budget for these areas.
Refreshments will be served at 5.30pm. The meeting will start at 6pm. Speakers include NHS East London and the City Chair, Marie Gabriel; Chief Executive, Alwen Williams; local GP, May Cahill; and Director of Public Health, Dr Ian Basnett. They will outline the achievements of the last year whilst looking forward to the future of healthcare services across east London and the City. These services have been shaped by local people’s views.
Chair of NHS East London and the City, Marie Gabriel, said:
“Across east London and the City your local NHS has been listening to and acting on what local people say to improve health services and care.
“Attending the AGM is a good opportunity for local people to hear how we have worked with them to improve services, better understand how local health services are funded and to ask questions of the people who are ultimately responsible for your local health services.”
Local improvements include
- We have encouraged and supported more women to attend their breast-screening appointments. Numbers of women attending their screening have increased: 67 per cent (an 11 per cent increase) in Newham, 64 per cent in City and Hackney, and 67 per cent in Tower Hamlets.
- More and more people who want to stop smoking are doing it through our NHS stop smoking programmes. Newham, Tower Hamlets and City and Hackney are amongst the best performing PCTs in London. More than 5,000 people were supported to stop tobacco use last year.
At the AGM members of the public and representatives of local organisations will have the opportunity to ask questions to NHS East London and the City executives and put forward suggestions about how health services across east London and the City can improve further.
