For the first time many Tower Hamlets pharmacists are offering free flu jabs for over 65s and people at particular risk from flu.
GPs across the borough are offering the vital vaccination, but local people now have the choice of going to one of 19 pharmacies offering the jab. We are one of the first boroughs in London to offer this.
Rachael Sadegh, Community Pharmacy Lead with Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust said: “Flu is serious. If you are aged 65 and over or are in an ‘at risk’ group you are more vulnerable to the effects of flu. It can lead to more serious illness such as bronchitis or pneumonia.”
“GPs are encouraging everyone at risk to have a vaccination. Now, having the jab at many local pharmacies is an option too. That may be more convenient for people because they are often open later in the evening, and for longer hours at the weekend, for example.
“The vaccination only takes a minute and is safe, effective and free for those who are at risk,” said Rachael.
Over 65s and those at risk can have a free jab at participating pharmacists. This includes people on medication for diabetes or respiratory problems.
GPs are also encouraging people with asthma, or a serious heart, chest or kidney condition to have their free jab.
