Festive season sexual health campaign 2010 in Tower Hamlets

World AIDS Day 2010

NHS Tower Hamlets is launching a borough-wide sexual health campaign for the festive season. The campaign coincides with World AIDS Day on 1 December 2010 and will run for a month.

This year, local pharmacies are helping to drive this campaign by raising awareness of the sexual health services that they provide. These include chlamydia and gonorrhoea testing, emergency hormonal contraception (EHC), contraception, pregnancy testing, and information on where to go for testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV.

Promoting these services is also designed to help shift public perceptions of the community pharmacy from being solely a supplier of medicines to that of a source of expert advice on a wide range of healthcare services.

There will be a particular focus on young people aged 16-24 years, offering advice and information on specific services available to them such as Options clinics and also more generic services such as the sexual health hubs.
