My local pharmacy
You can get healthcare advice or treatment for minor illness and injury at your local pharmacy. Your local pharmacy may stock the emergency hormonal contraceptive pill and will have a range of other contraception including condoms. Some pharmacies will be open every day of the holiday period. Please call your pharmacy to ask their hours or call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
My GP
Your GP practice will be closed on Christmas Day, Sunday 25 December 2011; Boxing Day, Monday 26 December 2011; and bank holiday Tuesday 27 December.
Your GP will also be closed on New Year’s Day, Sunday 1 January 2012 and bank holiday Monday, 2 January 2012.
If you need to see a GP on one of these days, or outside their regular hours, phone your GP practice’s main telephone number. You will either be directly transferred to their out of hours service or there will be recorded instructions on how to contact help out of hours.
There are also walk-in services where you can see a GP or a clinician seven days a week, including Christmas Day and New Year’s day, throughout Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. Call or visit NHS Direct to find the one closest to you.
My dentist
If you need to see a dentist over the holiday period call your local dentist to check their opening times. There are lots of NHS dentist in east London. If you need to find a dentist near you, contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or log on to NHS Choices.
Emergency dentist
If you require urgent dental care, outside your dentist’s regular hours, please contact the Emergency Dental Service on: 020 7377 7151 in the first instance. Emergency Dental Service, based at The Royal London Hospital, is moving from its current location to another part of hospital. From 14 December 2011 it will be located on the ground floor of the Dental Institute, via the Newark Street entrance.
