Bilingual health advocacy and interpreting service

We work with people who don't speak English or who are vulnerable, to help them access the services provided by doctors (GPs), dentists, pharmacies and other local health teams.

How we can help

Our role is to help you understand the health service. We can:

  • help with interpreting during visits with health visitors and other healthcare professionals,

  • register patients with a doctor, dentist or optician,

  • help you to make an appointment with a doctor,

  • go with patients when visiting a GP, dentist or optician,

  • speak on a patient’s behalf (with consent) during medical consultations,

  • provide information about accessing local health and social services,

  • provide information and advice to help you make informed healthcare choices,

  • provide health education and health promotion to patients individually or in groups,

  • help with complaints procedures.

Languages we speak

We employ trained health advocates and interpreters who speak a range of languages, including: Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), French, Russian, Spanish, Sylheti, Somali, Turkish, Polish, and Vietnamese.

We also provide for other languages including British Sign Language through outside agencies.
