Safeguarding children: a declaration against minimum standards

Safeguarding children is one of the highest priorities for both NHS Tower Hamlets and Tower Hamlets Community Health Services. We are therefore committed to ensuring that the risk of physical, sexual, emotional harm or neglect to all children and young people is minimised.

The following is a declaration that we meet a set of standards for safeguarding children. The standards cover the following areas: our staff, our policies and systems, staff training, leadership and governance. These minimum standards, and a requirement to make a public declaration of our position against them, were set out in a letter sent on 16 July 2009 by the NHS chief executive, David Nicholson CBE, to all NHS trusts and primary care trusts in England.

The declaration was first published on our website in December 2009 and was updated in July 2010.
