The NHS Tower Hamlets annual report, published today (23 July 2009), describes our activities and highlights our work during 2008/09.
The report sets out the steps we have taken to improve health and well-being in the borough, develop local services, and listen to the communities we serve.
Among our achievements of the past 12 months:
-
we listened to local views and it is now easier to see a GP
-
we listened to local views and dentists are now opening longer hours
-
we helped more than 2,000 people to give up tobacco
-
we were top in London, second in the country, for improving health and ensuring local people have improved services (world class commissioning assessment)
-
we screened a record number of young people for chlamydia to improve sexual health in the borough
-
we introduced a new health advice hotline number – 020 7364 5016
-
with the local authority we became the only area in London to become a healthy borough – working to improve health through more opportunities to eat healthy foods and exercise.
Transforming Tower Hamlets Community Health Services
This year’s annual report includes an additional supplement on the work of NHS Tower Hamlets Community Health Services, the provider arm of our organisation, which provides a wide range of health services for local people, including community nursing, older people’s services and rehabilitation, therapies and foot health.
