Commissioning services

We are responsible for commissioning – or buying – services from other providers to meet the health needs of local people.

This includes commissioning services from NHS foundation trusts, voluntary sector organisations, and private health companies.

World class commissioning programme

At the end of 2007, the Department of Health launched its ‘world class commissioning’ programme, which sets out goals for every primary care trust (PCT) to develop how we manage all our local health services.

It aims to transform the way we operate and in doing so, to ensure that the NHS remains one of the most progressive and high performing health systems in the world.

Measuring performance

Under the world class commissioning programme, all PCTs are assessed against a set of 11 criteria or world class commissioning competencies.

This is intended to hold us to account for what we do, reward good performance, and ensure the health of our people is improving.

Working together

World class commissioning cannot be achieved by NHS Tower Hamlets alone. We work closely with patients, the public, clinicians and other partners including community organisations and the local council to shape our services and make changes happen.

In order to be successful, we will need to show that we are delivering better health and well-being for all.

Get involved: it's your NHS

We encourage patients, residents, and community organisations to get involved in and contribute to our work. See our Get involved section.
